Pickering Castle
home
Pickering castles lies in North Yorkshire, it is
of the Motte and Baily design and was first built out of wood on a hill and
surrounded by earth banks and ditches. Little exists of the early buildings such
as the Keep, most of the early stone work dates from the 12-13th Centuries, but
the outer wall remains more intact because this was built at a later date
possibly more like the 14th century. By the 17th Century the castle had done its
purpose and was left to fall apart for the next 200 or so years.
